Second floor

The attic, originally intended for the house service staff and which Gaudí designed as an open ventilated space, today houses the permanent exhibition. This room is essential in order to understand the history and evolution of Casa Vicens, to consult the blueprints and admire some of the original furniture.

The room is structured across thematic tables where visitors can discover a wide variety of elements from the richness of the techniques and materials used in this first house to Gaudí’s sources and intellectual influences during his training. You can also view the plans that Gaudí presented for the construction of Casa Vicens and see the different modifications that Casa Vicens has undergone through different models.

This floor is completed with a reproduction of the Manuscrito de Reus (Reus Manuscript) where Gaudí, typically not much inclined to writing, set down his reflections on architecture in words. Specifically, on the page entitled La casa pairal (The country house), he highlighted his conception of how a house should be: “A home is the family’s tiny nation”.

This exhibition is complemented with certain pieces of the original furniture that Gaudí designed for the Vicens family in the town of Alella (Barcelona).
