First floor

The space of the Vicens family’s main bedroom is divided into two areas where different hues, ornamental motifs and sgraffiti were applied. This bedroom leads out to the garden through a terrace with a bench and railing from which the Vicens family could gaze at the plants in the garden with calm and comfort.

The pink-coloured room, thought to be the daughter’s bedroom, features blackberry brambles in the sgraffiti and ivy in the ceramic coffers in the ceiling, reinforcing the vine-like nature of Antoni Gaudí’s first house.

The passionflower, known as the “flower of Christ”, features prominently in the ornamentation of the blue room. To fill out the orchard in this bedroom, Gaudí designed ceramic coffered ceilings with blackberries among the ceiling beams.

We can find the counterpoint in the living room situated above the smoking room. As if it were connected to the outdoors, the room is crowned with a false doom with a spectacular trompe-l’oeil decorated with climbing plants and flying birds.

This floor also features a dressing room and a bath, which Gaudí continued to decorate with plant motifs. Casa Vicens stood out as one of the city’s most modern buildings, especially considering that running water in the late 19th century was a true luxury.
