Tradition and solidarity at Gaudí’s first house on 22 May

This year marks the eighth time that the Feast Day of Santa Rita will be celebrated on 22 May at Casa Vicens since the building opened as a house museum. In keeping with the commitment to Vila de Gràcia, the mass of Santa Rita and the subsequent blessing of roses will be held in the garden of Casa Vicens.

Once again this year, to commemorate the feast day of the patron saint of the impossible, Antoni Gaudí’s first house will display a special floral decoration, host a charitable event and present its new ambassadors.

Lluís Bassat and Camino Quiroga, new ambassadors

Following the initiative inaugurated last year, Gaudí’s first house will award the title of Casa Vicens ambassadors to people who have stood out publicly in their professional field for the values that characterise the house museum: daring, a sense of community and excellence.

Taking over from Carme Ruscalleda and Raül Balam, this year’s ambassadors will be Lluís Bassat, a publicist, writer and art collector; and Camino Quiroga, a notary public, teacher, art collector and promoter of projects to empower women.

Santa Rita fills Carrer de les Carolines with roses in solidarity

To celebrate the day of the patron saint of the impossible, Carrer de les Carolines will host a variety of activities. On the one hand, the church of the Hijas de la Caridad de San Vicente de Paúl, located at number 16, will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will host the traditional mass of Saint Rita at 10:30 a.m. Afterwards, the blessing of the roses will take place in several shifts from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the garden of Casa Vicens. A stall selling roses and candles will be set up in front of Casa Vicens from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The proceeds will be donated to the Obra Social Sanitària Cor de Maria, a private, non-profit organisation in Gràcia, which aims to provide social assistance and health care to the elderly to improve their autonomy and quality of life.

FLORESTUDIO BCN is once again tasked with the floral decoration

FLORESTUDIO BCN will be in charge of the floral decoration, which will fuse devotion and nature, and can be enjoyed exclusively on 22 May. The decoration will feature a garland with olive branches and roses in memory of the saint, which will be placed in the fountain on the covered porch of Gaudí’s first house.
