Nature, taking centre stage this Christmas at Casa Vicens Gaudí

17 / 12 / 2019
History

Last year, Christmas at Gaudí’s first house centred around the different table decorations in the dining room on the season’s three most important nights: Christmas, New Year’s Eve and the arrival of the Three Kings. This Christmas, it is nature that takes centre stage at Casa Vicens.

We wanted to pay tribute to the idea Gaudí had when designing Casa Vicens, in bringing the house and the nature of the surrounding garden together. With this in mind, people wishing to go and discover Gaudí’s first house between 10th December and 7th January will be able to enjoy the floral decorations featured on both the outside and inside of the house. The most spectacular decoration can be seen in Casa Vicens’ bathroom, which was one of the first in Barcelona to have running water. Here, visitors can see a replica of the magnolia planted in the garden. It is a magnolia which fills one of the most private and small rooms of this UNESCO World Heritage Site with magic.

Family activities: 23rd and 30th December; 2nd and 3rd January at 11 am

Would you like to find out about the manufacturing process of the carnation tiles seen on the exterior of Casa Vicens? This Christmas, come and take part in this ceramic family workshop from Manel Diestre, the master ceramicist in charge of the ceramic restoration of Casa Vicens. The workshop includes a prior visit to the house, a ceramic workshop and the firing of your ceramic creation. Your finished tiles can be picked up at Casa Vicens approximately one week after the workshop.

Exhibition of the NASEVO art collection of Ernesto Ventós Foundation in Casa Vicens

For the second year running, and as a nod to the typical Catalan tradition of L’home dels nassos (The man of many noses), Gaudí’s first house will welcome a series of art works created by NASEVO (artistic acronym of Ernesto Ventós), creator of our premium guided visit. The show, aside from making reference to L’home dels nassos, which is celebrated on 31st December, allows art to venture outside into the garden, much in the same way that nature is brought inside Casa Vicens through the floral decoration displays. These works can be enjoyed from 17th December 2019 to 8th January 2020 in the Casa Vicens garden.
