Tuesday 26 November, self-guided visit & guided visit 50% off. Code: GAUDI50 (Limited to 300 uses and not applicable to already promoted visits).
126,632 visitors of more than 100 nationalities visited this UNESCO World Heritage Site building. Turnover increased by 12.6% compared to 2019.
This year, Gaudí’s first house will recover its olfactory visit with the Ernesto Ventós Foundation and schedule an exhibition in collaboration with Casa Asia.
In November of last year, the first house built by Antoni Gaudí celebrated five years of being open to the public. This house, located in the Vila de Gràcia, has positioned itself as a unique facility in the management of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and, especially, in the management of Gaudí’s heritage.
With 126,632 visitors in 2022 – far from the figures of other Gaudí buildings that have been open longer and have much greater capacity – this figure represents an increase of 80% with respect to the number of visitors in 2021. In addition, Casa Vicens has exceeded the turnover achieved in 2019 by 12.6%.
Origins
The public that visited Casa Vicens in 2022 is more international than that of 2021, although Casa Vicens indicates that “it is still a public very aware of the uniqueness of this house within Gaudí’s career, and it rates the facility’s management and value for money very positively”.
As to the origin of the 126,632 visitors, Spanish citizens led the ranking at 16%, followed by 14% from France, 13% from Italy, 10% from the United States and, lastly, 5% from Great Britain.
These figures exemplify the type of tourism present in the city of Barcelona at the moment, which is mostly European and awaiting the return of the Asian public.
Future prospects
On the one hand, Gaudí’s first house, which is open every day, plans to recover some pre-pandemic activities in terms of weekend artistic workshops, the educational programme and the olfactory visit organised jointly with the Ernesto Ventós Foundation. On the other hand, it intends to establish a dialogue between the decorative richness of its rooms and contemporary artworks by top national and international artists. This is an ambitious exhibition project that will be carried out thanks to the collaboration of Casa Asia and can be enjoyed from April 2023 to January 2024.
