1889-1893
After the Episcopal Palace of Astorga burned in 1886, the bishop at the time, Juan Bautista Grau y Vallespinós, originally from Reus, asked Gaudí to build the new palace which would begin three years later. The work ended with the bishop’s death in 1893, with Gaudí refusing to continue the construction. The resulting Neo-Gothic building is a cross between a castle, a temple and a palace.
