“Sol, solet, vinam a veurer” (“Sunshine, sunshine, come and see me”), summer is here!

Casa Vicens Gaudí launches its summer season with the message “Sol, solet, vinam a veurer”, the phrase that Gaudí wrote it in his first house

Gaudí’s first house, built as a summer residence in Vila de Gràcia, launches its summer campaign with the headline, “Sol, solet, vinam a veurer” (Sunshine, sunshine, come see me) just as the architect wrote it in the tribune of the house. The expression, written in 1885 by Gaudí, is a nod to the popular Catalan children’s song “Sol, solet, vine’m a veure”, and refers to the sun that arrives in the mornings on the south side of the house, where the phrase is written, and not on other two sides of the tribune. It makes reference to the shade of summer and the warmth of the family home.

The aim of the campaign is to continue showing Gaudí’s great creative abilities when designing his manifesto house, in this case using sunlight to decorate the tribune located in the garden. 

Another of the axes of the campaign is the return to its origin, in this case on a linguistic level. This is because in 1913, in other words, 28 years after the construction of Casa Vicens, the spelling rules of the Catalan language were defined as they are known today. Within these norms, the correct way to write the reflexive pronoun of the first person singular of the imperative of the verb “to come” was established. It became “vine’m” instead of “vinam” as Gaudí wrote in 1885.

With the arrival of summer, Casa Vicens offers a reliable schedule, opening every day of the week, with different visit options, from free visits with an audio guide, to guided tours in Catalan, Spanish or English or visits with an exclusive piece of patisserie to take away, created by the Hofmann Hospitality School.

A summer of concerts and contemporary art

Throughout the summer, Casa Vicens will continue to host the temporary exhibition Uncertain Equilibrium by the artist Txemy Basualto, which inaugurates a new sculptural installation of four pieces made of wood and paper with the support of Itziar Luna. These installations act as organic barriers guiding the visitor on their tour through Casa Vicens. The Paseo installation, located in the main bedroom of the house, will be there until October 31, as will the exhibition displayed in the temporary exhibition room. As part of this exhibition, Gaudí’s first house offers two concerts by sound artist Perdi Rominguer, a frequent collaborator in Txemy’s creations, and by the well-known German DJ Martin Gretchsmann.
