Modernist route in Gràcia: from Domènech i Montaner to Gaudí
Imagine the old Barcelona city into the walls, at the same time try to imagine a large forest between the walled city and the beautiful and quiet village of Gracia (yes, before being a neighborhood of Barcelona, Gracia was an independent and very prosperous town). Industry and working class opened their doors to the new wealthy families from Barcelona to enjoy their vacations and free time in this small paradise, very close from the city center.
The Passeig de Gracia is one of the many consequences of the social and economic growth of this small population, and Casa Fuster together with the Casa Vicens, the two most clear examples about that new architectonic movement and all the people involved in it.
We are going to make an exciting journey that will take us to know the last work done by the fantastic Lluís Domenech and Montaner, master of Gaudi, until we reach the first house of his student. In this way we will discover the relation of the modernist style with the society that promotes it, we will discover how was the Barcelona of the 19th century and we will analyze all the details of these two geniuses comparing their particular architectural styles, which at the same time, belong to a single current artistic, cultural, social and economic.
Let’s make a journey between the master and the genius!
